Trust is a funny thing, it takes a lot of work to earn it, and often one simple slip to lose it. And the more you try to convince people of how much they should trust you, the less they tend to. I can’t think of anybody who feels comfortable buying a car from Honest Dan. I have found that the best way to earn peoples trust, is just to be yourself, consistently. It never fails to amaze me when people are friends with people that talk about other people behind their back, but are nice to them to their face. You realize that they are probably talking that way about you when you’re not there as well. It’s like the scorpion that gets the ride across the river on the frogs back, and halfway across the river the scorpion stings the frog. The frog asks the scorpion “why would you do that? Now we are both going to die.” To which the scorpion replied “I can’t help it, it’s my nature.” I determine who I can trust by watching their nature. You will know them by their fruits.
However, if you want to throw some deep dark secrets my way, or maybe some nuclear launch codes or something, I won’t stop you. You can trust me with them. Really.
