When we go to someone for advice, isn’t it nice to know that they have some idea what they are talking about? Sometimes I wonder about psychiatrists though, because do they really know? Or do they just know how to play a really good sounding board? It seems like all they really do is listen while you sit there and work out your problems for yourself in front of a perfect stranger. I’m not saying that if you’re going through a serious psychological issue it doesn’t make sense to see a professional, but if all you really need is someone to listen to you dig deep for your darkest secrets, a pet is great at that. They don’t talk back, all they can do is listen (so you have a captive audience) and they’re cheap. Then you can use the money you saved to pay off some bills and maybe buy yourself a little something nice.
And how does that make you feel?
